Belgian MEP Gérard Deprez: 156 Members of European Parliament Condemn Fake Elections in Iran

Dear Friends, My name is Gerard Deprez, Member of European Parliament from Belgium. I am also chair of the friends of a Free Iran group in this parliament.
As you know the Iranian regime is holding a presidential election on Friday. We believe this is not a real election as there are no opposition candidates. Today a joint statement signed by 156 members of European Parliament from different political groups has been issued in which we have condemned these fake elections.
We stressed that Any further expansion of relations with Iran must be conditioned to a clear progress on human rights, women’s rights and a halt to executions.
I believe that the Iranian people deserve much better than being ruled by these brutal mullahs. Nothing will change with these fake elections. We need to support a democratic change in Iran.
We are delighted to hear about the campaign organized by Iranian opposition, PMOI and supporters of Mrs Maryam Rajavi inside Iran, to reject these fake elections. They are very courageous to do these activities by risking their lives for a free Iran.
I am sending this joint statement by 156 MEPs to the international media and also to Ms Mogherini and the European Foreign Ministers.
